Srinagar, July 10 (UNI) The Communist Party of India (M) today demanded holding of assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir without any delay.
Governor's rule in the state was imminent because of the politicial turmoil, yet we demand that assembly elections should be held without any delay, the state secretary of the CPI(M) Mohammad Yousuf Targami said at a public meeting at Anantnag in south Kashmir today.
Referring to recent developments in the wake of Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) land issue and subsequent developments, which resulted in the down fall of Congress led coalition government, Mr Targami said the political parties irrespective of their ideologies must draw lessons so that blunders are not repeated.
He said that the recent developments have further underlined this reality that people can not be taken for granted.
However, he termed the attempts made by certain political groups with vested interests to use the situation and divide people as unfortunate.
The CPI (M) leader cautioned the political leadership not to exploit the emotive issues for their narrow electoral ends.
He said that every effort must be made so that the on-going peace process is not derailed and stressed on holding of elections on time.
Referring to the political crisis at the Centre, Mr Tarigami explained that the Indo-US Nuclear Deal is essentially a strategic alliance with US imperialism.
He said that America's designs in Afghanistan, Iraq and Palestine are known to the world.
The United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government is keen to go ahead with Nuclear Deal, at a time when the people of the country are facing distressing spectacle of mass poverty, price rise and unemployment, he added.
