Darjeeling, Jul 10 (UNI) The Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) today decided to send a 500-member student delegation to meet Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on August 27 to place a formal demand of Gorkhaland state.
GJM president Bimal Gurung had convened a meeting of the Janmukti Vidharthi Morcha at Gymkhana Hall and told them to gear up for greater causes of the Gorkhas.
He said the students after meeting the Chief Minsiter in Kolkata would leave for New Delhi to call on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil with the same demand.
About 1000 students, who had been on relay hunger strike in different areas last month, were invited in the meeting today.
A report from Siliguri said the ''Aamra Bangali'', a mass organisation, today demanded arrest of the GJM leaders, who violated the West Bengal Motor Vehicles Act.
More than half of the GJM's central committee members had changed their car numbers erasing WB (West Bengal) and pur GL, meant Gorkhaland.
Aamra Bangali organising secretary Khushi Ranjan Mondol in a memorandum to Additional District Magistrate Paritosh Roy said the government should take notice of the defacing of the car numbers.
He also warned that if any problem arose out of car issue, the administration would be held responsible.
