Kohima, Jul 10: A group of the Dima Halam Daogah(Jewel) insurgents, from Karbi Anglong district of Assam, bordering Nagaland, who were taking shelter in the NSCN(K) camp in Athibung under Peren district of Nagaland, were flushed out in a joint operation.
Public Relations Officer of the office of Inspector General of Assam Rifles (North) Major Pallab Choudhury said here today that on receiving information that DHD(J) militants were sheltering in the NSCN(K) camp, a team of one column of Army, three columns of Assam Rifles, Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB), state police, district administration officials and local Gaon Burahs, raided the NSCN(K) camp yesterday.
The security personnel asked the NSCN(K) ultras to vacate the DHD cadres, as they were not authorised to stay in the designated camp.
However, some of the DHD cadres fired few rounds in the air and after a standoff for several hours, the NSCN(K) leaders informed that the DHD cadres had vacated the camp.
A team of the district administration, Gaon Burahs and security forces searched the camp and confirmed that the DHD cadres had left.
The security officials advised the NSCN(K) leaders not to shelter unwanted elements in the future.
This was for the first time such an operation was taken up by the security forces in a designated camp in search of cadres of outfits from outside the state.
In a separate incident, acting on a tip-off, security forces raided the AG Colony of Kohima town yesterday to flush out armed cadres from the civilian populated areas.
The forces of Assam Rifles, IRB and state police cordoned off the entire colony and made a house-to-house search, but no one was found and no arms or ammunition could be recovered, official sources said.
