Banks in Daxina Kannada dist clock 17,173 cr business

Mangalore, Jul 9 (UNI) Banks in Daxina Kannada in five taluks have achieved a business turnover of Rs 17,173 crore for 2007-08.

Talking to newspersons here today, DGM, Syndicate Bank K U Shanbhag, the lead bank of the district said all the banks, including the state-owned Apex Bank have 379 branches in the district.

The Credit Deposit Ratio (CDR) of the district stood at 63.6 per cent. The deposit collection was up by 15.19 per cent while lending rose by 16.6 per cent, he added.

He said the banks in the district had disbursed Rs 2,427 crore as against the annual target of Rs 2,307 crore, crossing the target by over five per cent.

Advances to the priority sector was Rs 1,711 crore, which included lending of Rs 787 crore to agriculture, Rs 212 crore to smallscale industries and Rs 712 crore to other priority areas.

The banks have completed the process of identification of beneficiaries under the Centre's debt waiver and debt relief scheme. Altogether 20,626 small and marginal farmers would be benefited to the tune of Rs 5.75 crore under the debt relief scheme, he added.
