UP Chief Information Commissoner suspended
Lucknow, Jul 9 (UNI) In a major administrative move, Uttar Pradesh Governor T V Rajeshwar today suspended Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) Justice (Retd) Mohammad Asgar Khan with immediate effect, following probe against him for corruption and illegal appointment in the Commission.
The Governor has already referred the probe against the CIC to the Supreme Court under section 17 of the Right to Information Act (RTI).
UP chief secretary Atul Kumar Gupta said he issued the suspension order after approval from the Raj Bhawan late this evening.
The Governor has used his power under section 17/2 of the RTI Act till the probe is completed.
As per the allegations, Khan was involved in serious corruption, illegal appointment, disobeying the RTI rules and interfering in the works of the officials of the Commission.
Khan, retired Judge of the Allahabad High Court was appointed by former UP chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav in 2006.
