Jammu police rescues woman from ''illegal confinement''
Jammu, Jul 9 (UNI) Police today rescued a ''mentally retarded'' woman from ''illegal confinement'' of her sister, after being enslaved inside a house for the last 12 years in Residency Road area of the city, sources said.
Madhu (40), who was harassed by her real sister Sushma (52), was rescued by the district police with the help of a Non-governmental Organisation and the locals. She was later admitted in City Psychiatric Hospital for treatment, sources added.
''Madhu was married some 15 years ago and had a son. When her husband refused to accept her due to her sickness nearly after three years of marriage at Pathankot in Punjab, she returned to Jammu to stay with her sister,'' Manpreet Singh, a neighbour told UNI.
Sushma, who was a government employee in the Civil Secretariat, never allowed Madhu to talk to anyone in the locality, he added.
