Gurbachan Jagat to be new Manipur Governor
Imphal, Jul 9: Mr Gurbachan Jagat would assume charge as the new Governor of Manipur while present Governor Dr Shivinder Singh Sidhu would henceforth hold the gubernatorial position in Goa, Manipur Information Centre officials said here today.
Mr Jagat was the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) chairman.
He joined Indian Police Service in 1966. While heading the intelligence apparatus Punjab Police DIG (Intelligence/Security) between 1982 and 1990, he coordinated the fight against insurgency in Punjab.
The Centre conferred the Padma Shri on Mr Jagat in 1987 in recognition of his efforts in the pre and post-Operation Blue Star years. He also bagged the Indian Police Medal for Meritorious Service in 1982.
Mr Jagat also served as the DGP of Punjab as well as Jammu and Kashmir, besides assuming the post of the Border Security Force Director General.
