Kochi, Jul 9 (UNI) Direct-To-Home (DTH) company Dish TV today reduced its subscription rates for new customers in South India and a free 'hattrick offer' covering five sports channels, movies-on-demand and gaming for one year.

Dish TV Vice-President (Marketing) Anjali Malhotra said at a press conference here that as part of the offer, valid from July ten to August 31, the basic 'Freedom' package was being given for Rs 1,990 (Rs 200 extra for installation) for one year.

Thereafter, the subscription rates would be Rs 100 per month as against the current Rs 150.

Besides nearly 100 digital quality channels, including eight to ten regional language channels, the new offer also had a bonus of five sports channels - Ten Sports, Zee Sports, ESPN, Star Sports and Star Cricket.

This offer was being made as a consumer survey in the four Southern states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh had revealed the viewers' preference for regional language and sports channels, she said.

Besides, the new subscribers would enjoy 33 movies on demand which would include regional language films also. However, for the time being, Malayalam was not included in this as negotiations were still on for the rights of Malayalam films.

Under this offer, eight new games would also be put on the gaming portal 'Playjam' every month.

Ms Malhotra said Dish TV hoped to triple its customer base in the southern region with this offer. Its subscriber base, which stood at about 3.5 million all over the country, had grown by 60 per cent after it launched its 'free set-top box' offer two months ago and she claimed that Dish TV had a 56 per cent market share of the DTH segment.

She said the rates for its other packages were also being reduced. While the 'Freedom Plus' package is now on offer for Rs 150 per month as against the previous Rs 200, the rates for the 'Welcome' package had been reduced to Rs 262 from Rs 300 and for 'Maxi' it had been reduced from Rs 350 to Rs 300 per month.
