3 LeT militants among 4 killed, tragedy averted in Kashmir

Srinagar, Jul 9 (UNI) Four people, including three militants, two of them belonging to Pakistan-based Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) were killed and a major tragedy was averted while a bunker of CRPF was attacked in the Kashmir valley overnight.

Official sources said today Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and Army launched a joint operation at Shimriyal in the frontier district of Kupwara.

During the operation, two LeT militants Mohammad Amin Baig alias Vikas and Qari Onus, resident of Pakistan, were killed. Four AK rifles, 16 magzines, 429 rounds of ammunition, five UBGL grenades and seven maps were recovered from the slain militants.

Another militant was killed in a similar encounter at Shokhbaba forest in Bandipora, about 55 km from here, in north Kashmir. One AK rifle and other arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain militant.

An official spokesman said one person was killed in an encounter between Army and militants at Rerum under Kunzer police station in Baramulla district.

He said security forces averted a major tragedy when they detected and defused an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in a bus at stadium colony, Baramulla. The bus was on way to Baramulla from Handwara. The driver and conductor were arrested, he added.

Militants hurled a hand grenade towards a CRPF bunker at Saraf Kadal in the down town causing injuries to a civilian. The injured was hospitalised.
