Hyderabad, Jul 8 (UNI) Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha K Rahaman Khan today strongly advocated the need for Upper house in the democractic setup for detailed discussion before passing any legislation.
Speaking at a felicitation organised by AICC member and General secretary of the APCC D V Satyanarayana Rao here today, Mr Khan said in a democratic country like India it was very essential to have an Upper House where thorough discussion take place on any legislation.
All biggest democratic contries like America have the Upper Houses.
He was unhappy that some states in India have not considered having an Upper House which was essential to protect the democratic values and expressed hope that all the states would think over it.
Mr Khan also said the people should know that the Parliamentarian and Legislators were taking so much pain for partcipating in various debates and Parliamentory Committee meetings and that people should respect their respresentatives and protect the democratic values.
He praised Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy for taking up various developmental and welfare schemes for the benefit of the people and said Andhra Pradesh had developed in all sectors.
Andhra Pradesh Home Minister K Jana Reddy, Major Irrigation Minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah, and Satyanarayana Rao were present.
