{image-blackberry curve_08072008.jpg news.oneindia.in}New Delhi, Jul 8: Reliance Communications (RComm), the country's second largest telecom company, today launched Research In Motion's Blackberry Curve 8330 smartphone, priced at Rs 25,990.

The phone has a two-megapixel camera, advanced multimedia capabilities and supports access to email, messaging and other mobile applications. The smartphone, which has smallest and lightest full QWERTY keyboard format, comes in an elegant silver colour with RIM's intuitive trackball navigation system. ''We are pleased to introduce the feature-rich BlackBerry Curve 8330. This BlackBery smartphone is now available at more than 500 stores across the top 20 towns,'' President, RComm Applications Solutions Group Mahesh Prasad said in a statement.

The controversial Blackberry maker RIM had come under the government scanner for security reasons. However, a week ago Telecom Secretary Siddharth Behura had stated that there was no threat from BlackBerry services and the government had no objection if an operator wanted to offer these services.

Mr Behura's statement was an about turn from the Department of Telecommunications' (DoT) earlier stance where the Communications Ministry had issued an ultimatum to RIM that it would have to provide encryption solutions to security agencies here if it wanted to continue operations in India.

Encryption solutions allow security agencies to monitor emails and data sent between BlackBerry devices.
