NABARD sanctions Rs 162 Cr to Haryana and Rs 120 Cr to Punjab

Chandigarh, Jul 8 (UNI) National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has sanctioned Rs 162.11 crore to Haryana and Rs 120.51 crore to Punjab for creation of rural infrastructure under Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF)-XIV.

Out of the total sanctioned loan to the Haryana Government, Rs 149.54 crore has been sanctioned for 61 irrigation schemes and Rs 12.57 crore for the construction of 38 rural bridges, an official release issued here stated.

The irrigation project aims at irrigation works for better water management and increasing intensity of irrigation and drainage works involving 53 minor and eight medium schemes in 14 districts--Ambala, Bhiwani, Hisar, Jind, Karnal, Mahendergarh, Mewat, Panipat, Rewari, Rohtak, Sirsa and Sonepat.

The project will be implemented by the Haryana Irrigation Department and will be completed by March 2011. The total cost of the project is Rs 171.62 crore of which NABARD's RIDF assistance will be Rs 149.54 crore.

The project once completed will irrigate about 53642.51 ha and contribute to the economic development of hinterland by improving production, productivity, crop diversification, cropping intensity and employment generation.

The rural bridge projects to be implemented by the Public Works Department (Buildings and Roads) in Haryana have been sanctioned with total cost of Rs 16.49 crore of which NABARD's RIDF assistance will be Rs 12.57 crore.

Further, NABARD has sanctioned an amount of Rs 120.51 crore to the Punjab Government for lining of 4500 Kms length of watercourses and construction of field channels falling under the command of Sirhind Feeder Canal System .

The total cost of the project is Rs 405.58 crore of which NABARD's RIDF assistance will be Rs 120.51 crore.

The project will be implemented by the Punjab Water Resource Management and Department Corporation Ltd and will be completed by March 2011.

The project once completed will irrigate about 314496 ha and contribute to the economic development of hinterland by improving production, productivity, crop diversification, cropping intensity and employment generation.
