Minister denies medical varsity being shifted

Bidar, Karnataka, July 8 (UNI) Allaying fears on the proposed Rajiv Gandhi Medical University being shifted to Bellary, Karnataka Medical Education Minister Ramachandra Gouda today said 300 acre of land had already been acquired for the purpose.

Talking to newsmen here, he said 100 more acre of land was needed for which negotiations were on with the farmers.

Former Minister and JD(S) Leader H D Revanna had earlier alleged the BJP Government had proposed to shift to Bidar the University sanctioned by the previous JD(S)-BJP Coalition Government during H D Kumaraswamy's Regime.

Mr Gowda said the General Hospital here would be upgraded at a cost of Rs 50 crore and the bed strength would be doubled from the present 300. The hospital would be attached to Bidar Medical College.

To a question, he said free hand would be given to medical colleges to fill up vacancies in faculty posts.
