Bidar, July 8(UNI) Allaying the fears that the proposed Rajiv Gandhi Medical University will be shifted to Bellary, Karnataka Medical Education Minister Ramachandra Gouda today said that 300 acres of land has already been acquired for the purpose.
Talking to newsmen here, he said that 100 more acres of land is need for the University and negotiations are on with the farmers in this regard.
Former Minister and JD-S leader H D Revanna had earlier alleged that the BJP government has proposed to shift to Bidar the Rajiv Gandhi Medical University sanctioned by the previous JD(S)-BJP coalition government during H D Kumaraswamy's regime.
Mr Gowda said that the General Hospital here would be upgraded at a cost of Rs 50 Crore and the bed strength would be doubled from the present 300 and it would be attached to Bidar Medical College.
Replying to a question, he said that free hand would be given to Medical Colleges to fill the vacancies to overcome shortage of faculty.
