Man held for possessing illegal weapon; confesses to raping
Mumbai, July 8 (UNI) A person, who was arrested for illegally possessing a weapon, has confessed to raping a 25-year-old woman at gun point at Railway Colony near Dongri here.
Speaking to mediapersons today, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Vishwas Nangare Patil said L T Marg police senior police Inspector Jayant Sarmokaddam had received information that one Ravi Shankar Munna Tiwari (25) had planned to dispose off an illegal weapon at Dadiseth Agyari Lane, Kalbadevi in South Mumbai.
Police after laying a trap on July 3, nabbed Tiwari from the spot. During interrogation, he also confessed to raping a 25-year-old woman at Railway Colony near Dongri.
Mr Patil said Tiwari had confessed that he had purchased the weapon to commit a dacoity at Kalbadevi.
He said on June 30, the accused person forcefully entered into the house of victim at Central Railway Colony near Byculla and raped the woman after holding her at revolver point. An offence was registered with J J Marg police station.
The accused will now be handed over the J J Marg police for further investigation.
