Patna, Jul 08 (UNI) The BJP today urged the President to direct the UPA government to prove its majority on floor of the House within one week in the wake of Left Front's support to the Centre following differences on the nuke deal.
Party national president of the minority cell and former union minister Shahnawaj Hussain told newspersons here that after withdrawal of the support of Left parties from the UPA government, it had been reduced to a minority and even the Samajwadi Party would not be able to rescue it in the House during the Voting on Confidence Motion.
''The Congress dared to invite angers of Lord Shiva by opting to withraw the allotted land from the Amarnath shrine board and it was bound to lose its government at the Centre as Ghulam Nabi Azad government fell in Jammu and Kashmir,'' Mr Hussain said.
The former union minister said the Manmohan Singh government was not sure of its majority and had deliberately not convened Parliament's Monsoon session despite the fact that perviously it used to be convened during July 15-August 15, the BJP leader pointed out.
When asked about the claim of Railway Minister and RJD president Lalu Prasad on majority of the UPA government, Mr Hussain said it was like the assertion of Ghulam Nabi Azad who had claimed to enjoy the majority support in the state Assembly contrary to the ground reality.
''Even Mr Prasad is not asserting that UPA government had majority in Lok Sabha as he had claimed during an interview to a news channel that some of the opposition members would remain absent during the voting on confidence motion paving the way for survival of the government,'' Mr Hussain observed.
