284 cases settled by Lok Adalat in Kashmir
Srinagar, Jul 8 (UNI) As the concept settling decades- old cases through Lok Adalat has become very popular in Jammu and Kashmir, a Lok Adalat held here resolved 284 criminal and other cases, an official spokesman said here today.
He said a Lok Adalat was held in the Sadder Court premises here yesterday for which six benches were constituted under the supervision of Chairman District Legal Services Authority, Srinagar.
In all, 850 cases were taken up out of which 284 cases were amicably decided on-the-spot.
A fine of Rs 1,06,850 was realised in various criminal compoundable cases and a compensation of Rs 13,78,000 was awarded in various MACT cases.
Thousands of cases, majority of which were pending for decades in different courts, were settled through Lok Adalats in the Jammu and Kashmir since January this year.
