Vaghela wants Modi to end diamond workers' stir
Bangalore, July 7 (UNI) Union Textile Minister Shankersinh Vaghela today demanded intervention of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi to end the agitation of four lakh diamond workers demanding hike in wages.
Talking to newspersons here, he said ''I have sympathy for the diamond workers, who are on agitation demanding wage hike.'' The minister said any delay in bringing an end to the strike would hurt the country's polished diamond export, to which Gujarat contributed substantially.
It may be recalled that more than four lakh diamond workers had been demanding wage revision by a minimum of 30 per cent, which had been rejected by the industry.
One worker had been killed and six others injured during such a stir in Bhavanagar in Gujarat recently.
