Bangalore, July 7 (UNI) Union Minister for Textile Shankarsinh Vaghela today demanded the intervention of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi to end the 4-lakh diamond workers' agitation over hike in their wages.
Speaking to newspersons here he said, "I have sympathy for the diamond workers who are on agitation demanding wage hike".
The union minister said that any delay in bring an end to the strike would hurt the country's polished diamond export, for which Gujarat contributes substantially.
It may be recalled that more than four lakh diamond workers are demanding wage revision by a minimum of 30 per cent, which was however rejected by the industry.
One worker had been killed and six others injured during an agitation in Bhavanagar recently.
