Tripura police fails to arrest escaped inmate
Agartala, Jul 7: The Tripura police failed to arrest a life convict, who escaped from Dharmanagar Sub-Jail through the main gate on July 5 while the jail authorities were conducting medical test and the employees had been on sentry duty.
Police said here today that Jail Superintendent Amrit Sadhan Jamatia was conducting inquiry into the incident and submitted the report to Inspector General of Prison while police launched search across the state, the BSF had been put on alert and help was also sought from Assam police.
Bappa Das (28) was a life convict in murder case some five years ago.
Meanwhile, during interrogation, three sentries who were on duty complained that Bappa had mixed tranquilisers with their evening tea before escaping from the jail.
However, jail employees allegedly partied with the inmates every evening and Bappa served them tea and snacks.
Meanwhile, the first class Judicial Magistrate of Khowai sentenced an ATTF militant collaborator to two years imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 1,000 last week for collecting ransom of Rs 30,000 from one Ranjit Debbarma whose brother was kidnapped by the militants.
