Sports Ministers' conference on July 9

New Delhi, Jul 7 (UNI) To review the schemes in the area of youth affairs and sports and to assess infrastructure requirement at grassroots level, the Central Government has convened a state Ministers conference under the chairmanship of Sports Minister M S Gill here on July 9.

The conference would discuss in detail and assess statewise requirements of infrastructure under the programme.

The centre has plans to provide basic infrastructure at Panchayat level through mission mode, over a period of 10-years as a centrally sponsored programme.

The conference, with a view to create modern sports infrastructure in the country, would also disuss creation of outdoor-indoor stadia, water sports infrastructure, shooting range and installation of synthetic tracks.

Schemes of Sports Authority of India (SAI) to provide scientific training to groom the sportspersons in the age group 14-21 years and to scout and nurture the natural talent for modern competitive sports and games from inaccessible tribal, rural and coastal areas of the country would also be reviewed.

During the conference the States would also be asked to suggest plans for better coordination with SAI's centres in their respective states.
