Oppn stages walk-out over Kodungallur issue
Thiruvananthapuram, Jul 7: The entire Opposition Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) in Kerala today staged a walk-out in the State Assembly demanding compensation for those who suffered losses in the violence unleashed by DYFI activists in Kodungallur.
Before trouping his men out of the House, Opposition leader Oommen Chandy said police remained mute spectators when the ruling party activists attacked shops, buses and houses.
He said the Opposition was ready to extend all possible help to the Government to suppress violence.
Earlier, opposing the admissibility of an adjournment motion, sought to be moved by Mr T N Pratapan of the Congress, Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said the trouble broke out following the killing of a DYFI (Democratic Youth Federation of India) activist.
The district administration had been given instruction to take action against the culprits.
