Lucknow, Jul 7 (UNI) Terming the Samajwadi Party ''opportunistic'' in striking a deal to bail out UPA on the nuclear pact issue, BJP vice president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi today demanded that the nation had a right to know about what he described as the ''Midnight deal behind the deal''.
''The 'Midnight deal' had shady credentials attached to it and it was most certainly not in 'the national interest','' the senior BJP leader told newspersons here in a press conference.
Mr Naqvi alleged that the Mulayam Singh Yadav-led SP was bargaining with the Congress to dilute the CBI probe into the Disproptionate Assets (DA) case against him and extend favours to filmstar Amitabh Bachchan and industrialist Anil Ambani. ''The Congress, which has yet to divulge details about the N-deal, should at least tell the nation what deal has been struck with SP,'' he said.
''The BJP is sure about an unholy deal between Congress and SP and so, they would never be forgiven by the people of the country,'' he said.
The BJP vice president, in reply to a question, categorically ruled out any pre-poll or post-poll alliance with Mayawati-led BSP and SP, before the Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh. ''BJP considers both the parties equally responsible for cheating the people of this state,'' he said.
Mr Naqvi was here to attend a high-level party meeting with the state leaders to discuss various issues ranging from candidate selections to election strategy. It was attended by State President Ramapati Ram Tripathi, senior leaders Lalji Tandon, Om Prakash Singh and others and was a prelude to an important meeting scheduled in New Delhi on July 12 next.
He said the Delhi meeting would finalise many names of the candidates and would ratify many of the decisions taken at today's meeting.
Referring to Jammu and Kashmir development, the BJP leader said it was a part of the 'game' played by Congress and PDP there. Latter allowed Congress to surrender before the separatist elements and withdrew support at the juncture it hardly mattered, that is, just before the term of the government was to expire.
