MP: Monuments facing submergence shifted

Bhopal, Jul 7: In order to preserve 25 historical monuments and large temples from the threat of submergence under Narmada Valley Proj ect, they had been relocated and reconstructed in their original form at safer places.

In an official release issued here, it has been mentioned that most of these monuments dated 11th, 12th and 16th century BC shifted from the SSP, ISP and OSP reservoir areas.

Six monuments affected by OSP reservoir in Khandwa and Dewas districts and 10 monuments affected by ISP reservoir in Khandwa, Harda and Dewas districts had been relocated.

Similarly, 9 monuments affected by SSP reservoir in Dhar, Jhabua and Barwani district had also been shifted. while, the shifting and relocation work of three Shiva Temples, one Someshwar temple, one Pashupateshwar temple and as many Devpratiling temple is in progress.

Three large idols of Vishnu Garud, Shankarshan and Narshingha Avatar,had been found at Khujawa in Dhar district, are situated over the submergence line of Sardar Sarovar.

A team of archaeologists and officials has been constituted to decide about shifting relocation or strengthening these monuments, the release added.
