Gang robs money from company employees
Jayankondam, July 7 (UNI) An unidentified eight member gang robbed Rs 56.06 lakh from two employees of a Tiruvaiyaru-based palm oil company at Sundaraperumal temple near Kumbakonam in Thanjavur District of Tamil Nadu.
Police said the company owner Rajendran asked his employees S Ravi alias Mahalingam and Iyeppan to obtain a demand draft for Rs 56.06 lakhs from a Bank at Kumbakonam.
The employees were carrying currency notes in three bags and were on the way to Kumbakonam by a Maruti Omni car when the gang travelling in a Tata Sumo Car, intercepted them at Sundaraperumal temple and snatched money bags from them at knife point. The gangsters also tied the hands of the employees and took them in their car.
The gangsters released the employees before a eculyptus grove at Udayanatham-Thinakudi village on the Kumbakonam-Chennai Highways and escaped in their vehicle with booty.
The victims, however, managed to escape from the grove and lodged a complaint to the police station. A case had been registered and investigation was, underway, police added.
