Kolkata, Jul 7(UNI) Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi underwent angioplasty at a city hospital today following detection of heart blockages.
Authorities at Apollo Gleneagles Hospital said the Minister was still in the ICCU, but was stable. He was on liquid diet.
Mr Dasmunsi underwent angioplasty after he was diagnosed with 'acute coronary syndrome' caused by coronary artery, they said.
The Union Minister and Pradesh Congress president fell ill and complained of chest pain while travelling to Raiganj, his constituency in North Dinajpur district, after a party meeting at Malda yesterday.
He was admitted to Raiganj sub-divisional hospital and was later flown to Kolkata by a special BSF aircraft late in the night via Purnea in Bihar.
Hospital sources said a team of specialist doctors was attending on Mr Dasmunsi and monitoring his condition.
West Bengal Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi visited the ailing Union Minister at the hospital this morning and wished him quick recovery.
Many politicians and sportspersons, including P K Banerjee, also visited the hospital at EM By-pass in the city. Mr Dasmunsi is also the All India Football Federation president.
