408 water tanks built for Micro Irrigation in Haryana
Chandigarh, Jul 7 (UNI) Employment of 7.49 lakh mandays has been generated and 408 water tanks have been constructed under a new initiative taken by the Haryana Horticulture Department to integrate a component of the National Horticulture Mission with Micro Irrigation.
Besides, as many as 214 tanks are under construction, Haryana Agriculture Minister H S Chatha said today.
The component of construction of community tanks as water conservation measure was integrated with horticulture plantation, vermicompost unit and irrigation, mandatory through drip system.
He said this initiative had yielded encouraging results in terms of output of the schemes and generation of employment.
Mr Chatha said this initiative was taken in the year 2006-07 and this resulted in benefitting small and marginal farmers as tanks of different capacity were designed and constructed. As many as 453 more tanks would be constructed during the current financial year.
