3 Vadodara central jail inmates escape from Palej

Vadodara, Jul 7 (UNI) Three inmates of the Vadodara central jail escaped from police custody near Palej in Bharuch district, about 55 km from here, late this evening.

According to Palej police sources, the prisoners gave a slip to the escorting police team from Vadodara soon after they were set free from the van to answer the nature's call at a roadside dhaba near Palej.

The incident reportedly took place when the prisoners were being escorted back to Vadodara central jail after a court hearing in Surat in connection with loot and robbery cases registered against them in Surat.

Talking to UNI, jailor B B Rabari said altogether six convicted prisoners, who were recently transferred to Vadodara central jail to serve their jail terms after completing two years term in Surat jail, were today taken to Surat for hearing in a court there in connection with another loot and robbery case. A five-member police team, headed by PSI R S Surve from Vadodara police headquarters, were escorting to prisoners.'' A top police official said all the check posts and borders with Palej and neighbouring Vadodara, Surat and Narmada districts had been sealed and search operation was on with the help of sniffer dogs to nab the inmates.
