14-ft-deep land fissure spotted in Jaunpur
Lucknow, Jul 7 (UNI) Land fissures, which were reported from impoverished-Bundelkhand, Etawah, Allahabad, Pratapgarh, Sant Ravidasnagar (Bhadohi) and the state capital recently, have now been noticed in Jaunpur districts.
However, according to technical experts, the reason was exploitation of ground water.
In Machlishehr tehsil, a 60 feet long and 14 feet deep land developed a fissure on one Kanahiyalal's field at Chacho village late last night, official sources said.
This was the first such incident in the district. The Agriculture and Land Conservation Department and the district administration had been apprised about the same.
Earlier, land fissures had occurred in 26 districts, of which 13 belonged to Hamirpur district.
