Tirupati, July 6 (UNI) President Pratibha Patil, who is on a two-day visit to Tirumala and Tirupati, arrived at the Renigunta airport by an IAF aircraft near here around 1755 hours, 40 minutes behind schedule, accompanied by her family members.
Mr Patil was received at the airport by State Medical Education Minister Galla Aruna Kumari, State Assembly Deputy Speaker Kuthuhalamma, TTD Trust Board Chairman B.Karunakara Reddy, Tirupati MP Chinta Mohan, District Collector Ravichandra, Rayalaseema IG Tagore, DIG(Anantapur District)Sujatha Rao, besides Chittoor District MLAs, Tirupati MLA Venkataramana and SVIMS Director Subramanyam, among others.
Later, she proceeded to Tirumala hills, the abode of Lord Venkateswara Swamy for dinner at the Padmavathi Guest House.
Earlier, on her arrival at the Security Guest House, she was given a traditional reception by TTD Chairman B Karunakara Reddy, TTD Executive K V Ramanachary and the Temple Special Officer Dharma Reddy.
After overnight stay at the guest house on the hill atop, she would participate in the pre-dawn ritual 'Archana Seva' conducted to the presiding deity of the temple in the wee hours between 0430 hours and 0500 hous on the occasion of her 43rd marriage day, tomorrow.
After a five-and-a-half hour programme, including launching of Sri Venkateswara Bhakti Channel in front of Tirumala temple, the President would motor down to Tirupati, where she would participate in various programmes, including unveiling of pylon as a mark of TTDs Diamonda Jubilee celebrations (Amruthotsavam) at Alipiri (down hills) and inaugurate the Sri Venkateswara Oriental College building.
Before leaving via Renigunta Airport around 1320 hours for Mumbai by IAF, scheduled at around 1335 hours, she will inaugurate TTDs Diamond Jubilee celebrations and participate in the maiden Convocation of the Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS) at Mahati Auditorium in Tirupati.
Police said security had been tightened at Tirumala, Tirupati and Alipiri. Combing operation had also been intensified in the dense Tirumala forests and on both the ghat roads between Tirupati and Tirumala.
The President is visiting Tirumala for the second time. she had earlier visited the temple town on December 29, last year, after occupying the highest post of the land.
