Police saves infant from insane father

Thane, Jul 6: A middle-aged man, believed to be insane, held his 10-month-old daughter and placed a sharp weapon near her neck threatening that he would kill her if anyone neared him at Thane railway station.

During the peak hours of morning, when office-goers were rushing off to reach their destinations on Saturday, July 5 found the man -- Gujarat Singh -- suddenly appeared in front of the crowd and threatened he would kill the girl -- Rakhi.

The railway officials informed Thane Nagar police about the incident. Police immediately swung into action. They rushed to the spot and pounced on the man relieved the child from clutches of the man. Singh was arrested but no action was taken against him since they were said that he mentally ill, police said.

Rakhi was taken to the police station. Till the time she was handed over to her grand parents, police took care of her. As the child was crying out of hunger, they fed her. The policemen when saw that the baby's clothes had become dirty, they bought her a new frock to wear. Through investigation they found out Singh's address at Thane and gave away the child.

Police said that Singh, who is originally from Surat in Gujarat, along with his wife Kamla and daughter Rakhi, had come here to meet his father at Shivaji Nagar in Thane.

One of the commuters at Thane station said that if the police had not arrived on time at the spot, Singh would have killed his daughter.

According to Singh's family members, Singh had left the house in the morning saying that he was going for a morning walk with the child. The said, he sometimes behaves unusually as he did in the incident.
