Islamabad, July 6 : The Pakistan Government is still considering a proposal to commute the death sentences of around 7,000 prisoners into life imprisonment.

The Daily Times quoted a spokesman of the Prime Minister's Media Office as saying that the matter is sub-judice.

On Friday, the Pakistan Supreme Court took suo motu notice of the government's move to commute all death sentences into life imprisonment.

Among the prisoners likely to benefit from this move is India's Sarabjit Singh, who has been languishing on death row in Lahore's Kot Lakhpat Jail since 1991.
