Jeev climbs to tied 7th in European Open

By Staff

Ash, England, Jul 5 (UNI) A three-under 69 in the penultimate round by ace Indian pro Jeev Milkha Singh staked his claim for a top-five finish in the 4.79 million dollar European Open and was at tied seventh going in to the final round here.

Jeev, with a total score of seven-under 209, is now nine strokes adrift of leader Ross Fisher of England, who also had a 69.

The Asutrian Open winner was off to a great start as he had three consecutive birdies from third to fifth hole. However, he dropped a stroke on the sixth to make a turn of two-under.

He had a lone bogey which came on his back nine at the 16th hole but his birdies on the 10th and 15th made sure that his day doesn't get spoiled.

Meanwhile, leading the pack was Fisher who enjoys a three-stroke cushion going into the final round.

Irishman Graeme Mcdowell (71) is at the second spot with a total of 203 while South Africa's David Frost (69) is a couple of strokes behind him at the third place.
