Srinagar, Jul 6 (UNI) Chairman of the breakaway Hurriyat Conference (HC) Syed Ali Shah Geelani was released after four-day house arrest in the Kashmir valley, official sources said.
They said Mr Geelani was put under house as a precautionary measure.
A spokesman of the HC Aiyaz Akbar told UNI that a large number of police personnel deployed outside the Hyderpora residence of Mr Geelani has been withdrawn last evening.
He was informed that he can now leave his house, Mr Akbar said.
He said the Hurriyat chairman was put under house arrest on Wednesday evening to prevent him from attending 'Hazratbal chalo', a call given by him for Friday.
However, due to strike yesterday called to protest against the police action against processionists, in which Shabir Ahmad Shah and others were injured, Mr Geelani remained under house arrest.
