Fishermen continues strike as peace talks fails
Rameswaram, July 6 (UNI) The peace talks convened by Ramanathapuram District Administration to end the indefinite strike by the fishermen here was abortive, as the fishermen continued their strike for the second day today, in protest against the frequent attacks by the Sri Lankan Navy against the Indian fishermen.
District Collector R Kirlosh Kumar headed the peace talks attended by over 150 representatives of various fishermen associations here today. Despite assurances given by the district administration, the fishermen were firm on their stand that the Centre Government should ensure that there should not be any more attacks on them by the Lankan Navy in future.
The fishermen have decided to intensify their agitation, as the peace talks had failed. They had planned to lay a one-day seize to the Pilgrim Centre here on July ten by blocking the vehicular and rail traffic at Pamban to draw the attention of World community on their plight.
