Congress leaders stopped from visiting curfew-affected areas
Indore, July 6 (UNI) Several Congress leaders, including Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh and Union Ministers V Narayan Sami and Kantilal Bhuria, have been arrested for insisting to visit violence-affected areas and meet victims.
When these political leaders reached the airport along with State Election Committee Chairman Ajay Singh, senior police and administrative officers informed them about the situation and did not allow them to enter the city.
However, the Congress leaders insisted and state Congress President Suresh Pachouri sat on a 'dharna' on the airport. Local Congressmen created a ruckus and shouted slogans against police and administration. Later, they were arrested.
Meanwhile, situation was under control in Indore where curfew was imposed on June 3 following violent clashes during a VHP-sponsored bandh to protest against the decision of the Jammu&Kashmir Government to revoke land allotment made to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board.
Curfew was relaxed for two hours in 13 police station limits from 0700 hours to 0900 hours this morning. No untoward incident was reported. Six people have died and 32 people were injured during communal violence on June 3. Police have arrested about 100 people in this connection.
