UNI reporter, scribes attacked in Gangtok
Gangtok, Jul 05 (UNI) Several journalists of the 'Amro Praja Shakti', a local Nepali newspaper, were attacked by unknown miscreants at their office at Tadong area here, leaving at least five of them seriously injured.
Police rushed the injured journalists, including UNI reporter Bijoy Gurung, to the STNM Hospital following the attack last night.
Later, they were referred to the Manipal Hospital where the condition of one of them was stated to be critical.
DIG Range Akshay Sachdeva, who visited the hospital this morning, said an FIR had been lodged at the concerned police station and an investigation was on. He assured that the miscreants would be apprehended soon.
About 10-12 masked men forcibly entered the office of the local newspaper last night and attacked with iron rods and hammers the scribes present there, including this UNI reporter. Several of the journalists sustained severe head injuries.
The miscreants also attacked the newspaper's editor Anjan Upadhyaya, who is also a local CPI(M) leader.
