Srinagar, Jul 5 (UNI) Expressing the hope that collective resolve and commitment of the people of Jammu and Kashmir towards peace and harmony will pave the way for a fruitful conduct of the annual Amarnath pilgrimage, the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB) today appealed to the people to maintain peace and calm.

The board said the annual Amarnath yatra has been a shinning symbol of the deeply secular traditions and glorious ethos of this pluralistic state.

An official spokesman said in a unanimous resolution, the Board, which met here under the Chairmanship of Governor N N Vohra, urged all segments of society in the state to maintain harmony and brotherhood.

This was the first board meeting of SASB after the recent controversy over the diversion of land to it.

The Board expressed the hope that the collective resolve and commitment of the people of the state towards peace and harmony will pave the way for a fruitful conduct of the Yatra this year and fully restore the momentum of a very large number of people from all over the country who were visiting the state.

The Board also appointed Mr B B Vyas, Principal Secretary to Governor as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of SASB.

The Governor, who is also chairman of the SASB exhorted the Board officials to work devotedly for ensuring that satisfactory facilities are provided to the visiting pilgrims.

He called for close synergy between SASB and each of the governmental agencies concerned, which have been providing logistic support for various services during the period of the annual Yatra.
