Former PMK MLA Kaduvetti Guru arrested
Jayankondam, Tamil Nadu, Jul 5: Police arrested Kaduvetti Guru, a former Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) MLA and President of the State Vanniyar Sangam, a communal outfit of the PMK, at his residence in Kaduvetti near here early today.
Accorrding to police, based on a complaint received from one Gunasekaran, they had registered an attempt to murder case against Guru and arrested him. They were also looking after four more people in this connection.
Thirteen people, including party's Deputy General Secretary Balu and Ariyalur District President Vaithi, were also arrested.
Elaborate police bandobust and intensive police patrolling were made in the vulnerable places of Perambalur and Ariyalur Districts to avoid any trouble or protest against the arrest of Guru, police added.
They were produced before Judicial Magistrate Jeevanandam, who had remanded them to judicial custody till July 18 and were later lodged at Central Prison, Tiruchirapalli.
Meanwhile, PMK President Ramadoss condemned the arrest of Guru.
In a statement issued at Chennai, Dr Ramadoss said it was a politically vindictive action by the DMK Government against Guru.
Party President and MLA, G K Mani condemning the arrest said ''police has foisted a false case against Guru.'' He told newpersons at Perambalur that district Superintendent of Police Prem Anand Sinha has arrested Guru at the instigation of the ruling DMK personalities. Mr Mani demanded that Mr Sinha be arrested, besides instituting a high level inquiry against his atrocities against PMK men.
