Pune, Jul 5 (UNI) There are only 100 days to go for the commencement of the third edition of Commonwealth Youth Games (CYG), to be hosted for the first time in Asia.
Pune has been bestowed with the honour of hosting this prestigious event, which is an important legacy for all-round development of the historic city, Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) President Michael Fennell said, while speaking during a function organised to mark the 100 days to go for the event. Mr Fennell was the chief guest on the occasion.
The third edition of the CYG, to be held from October 12-18, have gained more significance, because of the fact that 71 countries from the six regions of the Commonwealth namely Oceana, Africa, Europe, America and the Caribbeans will be vying for honours in nine different disciplines, Mr Fennell said.
Earlier, the CYG Organising Committee Chairman and MP Suresh Kalmadi, in his welcome address, laid emphasis on peoples' participation in making the event successful. Mr Kalmadi also thanked the Union government for releasing funds for creation of infrastructure for the event.
