Panaji, Jul 4 (UNI) Tension gripped the commercial city of Margao today and shopkeepers downed shutters for some time, with a group of Hindu activists, including Bajrang Dal volunteers, rushing to the police station demanding exposure of the people who owned the consignment of swords was seized yesterday.
The police seized 17 swords from an abandoned truck at Monte Hill area, even as the city was fast recovering to normalcy after experiencing communal riots last week over an incident of eve-teasing.
The activists, including BJP workers, in a memorandum to Margao police officers urged them not to spare the people who owned the swords and speed up investigation into the episode. They later dispersed.
The police constituted special teams to speed up the probe into the episode by establishing the whereabouts of the truck driver and owenrs of the vehicle and the consignees.
