Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu, July 4 (UNI) The police today described as imaginary a news item which said Thamizhar Needhi Katchi (TNK) President Subha Illavarasan was secured with weapons about two days ago and released on political intervention.
In a press release here tonight, Superintendent of Police, Cuddalore, said on July two, a police party on routine vehicle check at Reddychavady Checkpost intercepted a Tempo Traveller and found Mr Illavarasan with four others of Ariyalur in the vehicle.
Since Mr Illavarasan was concerned in several cases, he was thoroughly interrogated.
An enquiry with the Perambalur, Ariyalur District Police and 'Q' Branch showed he was not wanted in any of the pending cases and was on bail.
Also, the vehicle search yielded no objectionable object. As such, the police party allowed them to proceed further. The police neither received any instruction from any quarter nor there was any outside intervention in the release of Mr Illavarasan, he said.
