Hurriyat leader Shabir Shah, 20 others injured in police action
Srinagar, Jul 4 (UNI) Senior Hurriyat Conference (HC) leader Shabir Ahmad Shah and 20 others were wounded when police fired teargass shells and resorted to lathicharge to disperse a procession near Hazratbal shrine this afternoon.
Official sources said immediately after the Friday prayers were over in the holy shrine, devotees led by Shah and another separatist leaders Mohammad Ashraf Sahrayee and Nayeem Ahmad Khan were marching near the Kashmir University main gate.
However, police immediately swung into action and resorted to lathicharge before taking into custody Shah and others.
Shah was injured in the incident.
A police spokesman this evening said Mr Shah was leading a procession in Hazratbal.
The procession started pelting stones, one of the stones hit him near his right ear.
He was provided first aid by Police and shifted to SKIMS Soura.
He said a CT scan of his head was taken which was found normal.
He is out of danger.
