High court asks civic body to hand over land to craft village
Kolkata, Jul 4 (UNI) Calcutta High Court today asked the civic body to hand over the land to West Bengal Craft Village body it promised over a decade ago.
West Bengal Craft Village, which had been planned on Eastern Bypass, about six km east of the shopping plaza city centre, got the land from Kolkata Municipal Corporation.
The land measuring nearly 7.5 acre was registered in the name of the craft village as well, but the land was not transferred.
A two-judge bench, headed by Chief Justice Surinder Singh Nijjar, issued the ruling on an appeal by the craft village authorities seeking an order to immediately transfer the land to ensure that the village come up to preserve the declining handicraft.
