Indore, Jul 4: Indefinite curfew was clamped in entire Indore city this afternoon following widespread violence, forcing police to open fire at several places, officials said.
''Sporadic incidents of stone-pelting by mobs were reported at many spots, while police was also targeted at a few places,'' District Collector Rakesh Shrivastava said.
A few people were injured in the firing, he added. Police lobbed tear gas canisters and used other forms of force to disperse the mobsters. Police fired in the air in Malharganj area where two factions pelted stones.
Earlier, curfew remained in force in only four police station limits due to violence claiming four lives during yesterday's VHP-sponsored bandh that took a communal turn in this commercial town.
Prohibitory orders were already in force. Markets and educational institutions remained closed.
Amid tight security, the last rites of two people kiiled yesterday were performed in Khajrana area. Security personnel present there were also stoned.
