Rupnagar, Jul 4 (UNI) Former Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh today criticised state Congress president Rajinder Kaur Bhattal for her announcement to form a 'Youth Brigade' to tackle the alleged ''goons let loose'' by the Students Organisation of India (SOI), a student wing of the Akali Dal.
Talking to mediapersons here today, Capt Amarinder Singh said Ms Bhattal had no authority to form any youth brigade as it was the prerogative of the AICC president to float any new frontal organisation of the party.
Moreover, he said, there were already two frontal organisations of the youth in the Congress like Youth Congress and National Students Union of India (NSUI)in the state and it was the duty of the PPCC to make these bodies stronger in the state.
He said the Youth Congress was functioning quite well under the leadership of Vijayinder Singla, son of senior congress leader Sant Ram Singla.
Regarding the poor performance of the Congress in recently held elections to Panchayati Raj institutions and Municipal Councils in the state, Capt Amarinder Singh said the rank and file of the Congress in the state was feeling demoralised.
He said the matter had reached the congress high command, which would take some remedial steps after the nuclear deal issue subsided on the basis of reports of the Mukherjee committee and the Antony committee.
He also advocated 'one man one post' formula in Punjab Congress, saying the AICC president Sonia Gandhi also held the same view.
Responding to another question, Capt Amarinder Singh said the Badal government had registered disproportionate assets case against him in retaliation of the petition filed by him in the Supreme court seeking CBI investigation into the corruption case against Badals.
