Amarnath land issue: VHP calls bandh in A
Port Blair, Jul 4 (UNI) The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) will observe a bandh in Andaman and Nicobar Islands tomorrow to protest the move to cancel land allocation to the Amarnath shrine in Jammu and Kashmir.
''We demand that land should be given back to the Amarnath Shrine Board and the J&K Governor recalled,'' said VHP Andaman chapter's General Secretary Sambhunath Biswas, adding that street corner meetings would start in the Islands from tomorrow.
Yesterday the VHP had observed a country-wide bandh on the issue.
The Bharatiya Janata Party has decided to extend full support to tomorrow's bandh, party's Andaman unit president Vishal Jolly told newspersons.
Superintendent of Police(Andaman District)Ashok Chand told UNI that adequate police would be deployed to maintain law and order, apart from organising mobile patrolling and putting up police pickets at different places.
