Save Gujjars from agitators in Jammu region, ABGMS

Srinagar, Jul 3 (UNI) Alleging that property of minority Muslim gujjars was destroyed by agitators in the Jammu region, the Akhil Bhartiya Gujjar Maha Saba (ABGMS) today appealed to Governor N N Vohra to intervene and provide security to members of the commnuity.

President of the ABGMS Choudhary Ishfaq-ur-Rehman Poswal and president of the Jammu and Kashmir Gujjar, Bakerwal joint forum in a joint statement here today alleged that government had failed to protect the lives of Gujjar and Bakerwal communities in Samba and Kathua districts where a mob had destroyed their property and set on fire houses and other properties.

They appealed to the Governor to issue order for deployment of adequate cotingent of Army in Samba, Kathua and Jammu so that the lives and properties of Gujjars is saved.

They said members of the community feel insecure after their houses were damaged in Samba and Kathua districts last night by agitators.

In order to avoid the communal tension in various parts of the state, the leader suggested that civil society be involved to reduce the ongoing tension in various parts of Jammu region.

Lauding the role of Jammuites in maintaining communal harmony, mutual brotherhood and peace from time immemorial, both Gujjar leaders appealed to people of Jammu to maintain calm and not fall prey to the evil designs of communal and anti-peace elements. They also appealed to the Gujjar community not to get provoked with nefarious designs of communal forces. They said that Gujjars should play their role in restoring the normalcy and not to get misled by vested interests who want to create disturbance and destroy the peace and tranquility.
