Road to Sikkim reopens for small vehicles
Siliguri, Jul 3 (UNI) National Highway 31A that connects landlocked Sikkim was partially opened for small vehicles today after three days of suspension following breaches at Rambi, official sources said.
Officer-in-charge of Kalimpong police station Puran Subba said the Border Roads Organisation opened the road this noon for small vehicles only.
No bus or truck was allowed to ply on the section at Rambi as boulders and uprooted trees blocked the highway near the 28th Mile.
The blocakde had virtually cut off Sikkim for the last three days.
Kalimpong was also affected by the blockade as the hihgway passes through Kalimpong sub-division of Darjeeling district.
The BRO was still working on the section by deploying heavy duty dumpers to clear the debris as an estimated 150 metres of road surface was washed away by the mudslides.
