MLA arrested during tribal agitation
Godhra, Gujarat, July 3 (UNI) Police lobbed teargas shells and resorted to lathicharge to disperse tribals, agitating for the Scheduled Tribe status in Panchmahal district.
The tribals, led by Paranjayaditya Singh, an MLA of the Nationalist Congress Party, had given a call for Kadana village bandh yesterday.
During the ''bandh'', around 3000 tribals went on a rampage at Divda Colony village and pelted stones at the police. Two policemen were injured in the incident. The police lobbed eight rounds of teargas shells to control the mob in which four tribals were injured.
The injured policemen and tribals were rushed to a nearby hospital. Police have arrested Mr Singh and three tribals.
